New Home Almost Ready

Zenshin Daiko is putting the finishing touches on it’s new practice studio and drum making facility at 1734 Wili Pa Loop in the Millyard Industrial Park. The first practice there will be sometime in mid-March. It was a lot of work to improve the warehouse space. The building is new so the interior walls, ceiling, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and painting had to be put in.

Zenshin Daiko would like to thank all the parents, people from the community and businesses who helped to do work on the warehouse. Items donated include paint, doors, light fixtures, toilet, ceramic tile, refrigerator, engineering stamps, screws, electrical materials, an air conditioner and lots and lots of labor.

Zenshin Daiko would especially like to thank Jerry and Sheila Kawahara of H & S Paint, the owners of the building, who are waiting to until the improvements are finished before starting to charge rent.

Members will get to practice in air conditioned comfort on a laminated wood floor in front of 24 feet of mirror. Hopefully they won’t get too spoiled. Now that Zenshin Daiko has a home it will be a lot easier to get things done. Having a home means that extra practices can be scheduled as needed for special performances or to work on things that cannot be squeezed into the regular practice times.

* Starting with an empty shell of a warehouse there was a lot of work to do.

* After members of the Hawaii Carpenter’s Union Local 745 finished framing, the Carpenter’s Apprentice Class from MCC put up the drywall and did most of the taping. Valerie Jones and Bill Uemura are shown here getting the walls ready for painting.

* With the ceiling and lights in it is getting close to completion.

* The flooring was installed in just one evening thanks to some die hard volunteers. Now just a few more details and then all pau.
