Tiffany Sensei inspires ZD members with her odaiko playing and suggestions covering everything from gripping your bachi to walking on stage.
Zenshin Daiko was fortunate to be able to have one week of taiko workshops with Tiffany Tamaribuchi. From January 3rd thru the 10th Tiffany Sensei worked with the different classes at Zenshin Daiko’s practice studio.
As you may know Tiffany Sensei is a world renown taiko artist who has played professionally in Japan and across Europe and North America. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Sacramento Taiko Dan and maintains a professional taiko ensemble called Tozai Wadaiko. Tiffany won the Ota-Cho OTAIKO Hibike Ippon-uchi All-Japan Odaiko Competition on August 24, 2002.
While working with ZD, she inspired and motivated everyone with her vast knowledge, impressive skill, strength & easy going style.
She covered things like; stretching out properly, getting into a basic stance, how to hold the bachi (drum sticks) and playing as a group. It was amazing to see the improvement 20 minutes into the first workshop as everyone tried their best to follow Tiffany Sensei’s suggestions. It became clear to everyone that all the little things added up to make a noticeable difference.
Many members commented on how hard they had to work during the workshop but enjoyed every minute of it. Zenshin Daiko can’t wait until the next time Tiffany Sensei comes to Maui for another series of intensive workshop.
