Zenshin Daiko's 4th Annual Taiko Festival June 28, 2003

Zenshin Daiko’s 4th Annual Taiko Festival will be on June 28, 2003 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater at 7:00 pm.

This year’s concert will start off with Mika Shin Buyoo Kai, a children’s classical Japanese dance group taught by Karen Wasano. Mika Shin Buyoo Kai from Wailuku, Maui, consists of 19 participating members ages ranging from 7 years to 16 years. Instructor Karen N. Wasano, professionally known as Fujima Saemitsu, acquired her professional certificate from the Fujima School of Japan in 1977 and has been teaching for the past 19 years. The goal of the group is to share the love of the Japanese culture through dance performances.

Zenshin Daiko will then take the stage to finish off the first half. ZD members have been working hard to put together this concert. It will feature one number with all 32 members performing together and the premier of Inazuma, a number written by ZD members Elise Fujimoto and Christopher Hisamoto.

After a short intermission, Kona Daifukuji Taiko from the Big Island will take the stage. Kona Daifukuji Taiko is a youth taiko group formed in 1988 by Ryuji Tamiya of the Daifukuji Soto Mission of Kona, Hawaii. There are currently sixteen members from multi-ethnic backgrounds. Kona Daifukuji Taiko performs throughout the year at various community events on the Big Island such as the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival and the Aloha Week Festivals, and participates in many temple events.

Concert tickets for reserved seating are $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for children 12 & under and are available at the MACC Box Office. Call 242-SHOW.
