Nisei Project at the MACC.

ZD was back on the stage of the Castle Theater as part of the program with the Nisei Project on July 15 & 16. The show featured the Covenant Dance Theatre’s story-dance, “Nisei” that portrays the WWII Japanese-American soldiers. The show was written and choreographed by Marla Horikawa, originally from the Big Island and now resides in New York, as a tribute to her late father Lawrence Horikawa.

12 members of Zenshin Daiko attended the 4th North American Taiko Conference on August 1 - 3. The event was held at the California State University is Sacramento. Over 600 taiko enthusiasts from all over North America, Hawaii and Japan attended.

ZD members and their families attended a fabulous pre-conference reception at the Sacramento Taiko Dan dojo. It was a great time to meet with old friends and make new ones. The conference itself started with an opening session and then proceeded right into the workshops and discussion sessions.

On Saturday, August 2, ZD members and their families attended the Taiko Jam, a fabulous taiko concert with groups from L.A., Canada and Japan and the Sacramento Taiko Dan.

Thank you ZD members, Chris, Sheyenne, Elise, Jonathan, Bree-Ann, Kaily, Leslie, Preston, Tony, Valerie, Jean and Bill and their families for taking the time and expense to attend the conference.
