Workshops with Shoji Kameda

Shoji Kameda of On Ensemble took a quick trip to Maui to work with Zenshin Daiko on April 29 & 30. Zenshin Daiko was fortunate that Shoji could squeeze a Maui workshop in his tight schedule. First, Shoji worked with Zenshin Daiko’s shimedaiko players. He covered the basics and introduced some interesting theories to them. He emphasized playing relaxed and how to obtain more speed and power. He then worked with everyone on Omiyage, a song he wrote as a gift to the taiko community. Elise Fujimoto, ZD member who is now in college, taught the song to Zenshin Daiko after taking Shoji’s workshop at the Taiko Conference last summer. This song was very difficult to learn so Shoji went over the fine points and movements. ZD looks forward to performing Omiyage at their next concert.
